Höganäs Digital Metal partnered with Consat to develop a high-precision 3D writer for metal.
The first machine was developed in Consat’s concept workshop. Today, many advanced products are mass produced for external customers using several 3D writers. The precision is exceptionally high and the technology can manufacture products using several types of metal.
Ripasso Energy is partnering with Consat for assistance with mechanical engineering, software for electronics and IT.
We have had the privilege to follow Ripasso on their journey from start-up to stock market IPO.
The product we helped Ripasso to develop collects thermal energy from the sun, in a parabolic reflective dish that tracks the sun and heats hydrogen gas to drive pistons in the engine. The system provides alternating current directly without the need for additional DC/AC converters, water cooling systems or complex central units.The system converts concentrated solar radiation into electrical energy at a world leading efficiency of 32%.
AstaZero is partnering with Consat for development of new test equipment.
We have together developed the world’s most advanced winch system to control multiple collision targets for use in the auto industry. The winch system is exceptionally powerful and is capable of precise acceleration of targets, such as elks and bicyclists, to realistic speeds in an exceptionally short amount of time.
The new winch system is enabling tests of next generation active safety systems and autonomous vehicles.

Model-based development may be preferred when developing large, complex systems. The system’s design and architecture are directly connected to the code so all team members get a great understanding of the system functions.
For hardware dependent high-performance systems, model-based development with the associated generated code may be less suitable.
This is however something that our architects will evaluate in pre-studies or at the start of a project.
Consat has extensive experience with projects related to the automotive standard AUTOSAR (AUTomotive Open System ARchitecture). We were involved in the standardization and have since done several implementations of complete stacks.

When you develop a product, it is essential to understand how the product will be manufactured.
One of our areas of expertise is the development of tools for tool-related manufacturing. We develop tools for plastics painting, extrusion matrices, vacuum forming tools, and more.
Many of our designers have also worked as tool makers, which means we have a great understanding of the manufacturing and maintenance of tools.This experience is valuable throughout the development process.
Sheet metal is one of the basic elements of mechanical development and is consequently one of Consat’s strongest areas. We have experience ranging from blinds made of thin sheets to ramps and bow doors for ships.
Product development using sheet metal requires a good understanding of how one can later produce and assemble the final product. One of our biggest strengths is the combination of product and production development.
Consat has a design team with a focus on user interface, interaction design and developing user manuals.
The team works continuously with design of our own products, but is also utilized for external projects.
Based on customer requirements, we will work with customers’ designers or one of our design partners for the industrial design.

DFA / DFM
When developing products, Design for Assembly (DFA) and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) is very important. For our engineers, this design method comes naturally and is an integral step in our development process. Engineers at Consat participate in the installation of the products and machines they have developed, which provides a natural feedback and an increased understanding for the work involved in production.
Consat is frequently hired to assist with the development of advanced specialty machines for manufacturing. To achieve the best total cost, it is essential to find a balance between modifying the products and how much investment is required for the development of the special machines.
Choice of Materials
Choice of materials is an extremely important parameter for product development since it affects not only function, price, appearance, and production, but also the environment. We have developed Consat Green Guideline, a support for our engineers to develop more environmentally friendly products.
With carbon fiber composite materials it is possible to achieve structures which are both extremely strong and light weight.
Consat is working closely with several companies to develop new weaving techniques for carbon fiber. With Professor Nandhan Kohkar, we have developed the first weaving machines to produce the carbon fiber weave for Oxeon’s TeXtreme carbon fiber, as well as machines capable of weaving carbon fiber in three dimensions for solid blocks and beams of varying shapes.

Development of Prototypes
Since the company’s founding more than 30 years ago, we have helped customers develop prototypes ranging from small components to complex machines
Realizing our solutions as physical prototypes is invaluable for testing and provides valuable feedback to the continued development work.We develop prototypes with the help of manufacturers in a well established network.
We have also advanced the technology of prototype development through our work with the company Digital Metal, where we developed a new 3D writer that utilizes metallic powder.
When developing a product, there is usually a need for quick verification of the design.
Consat has acquired a machine for development of prototypes using the FDM (Fused Deposition Modelling) technique for models in ABS-plastic. The machine is intended to be used as a service in our projects and for our customers. The max size of the models developed is 203x203x305mm. In addition to this machine, we have our own workshop for assembly and basic machining such as turning and milling.
Proximity to testing and verification facilities is essential for effective development. This is why we have invested in our own Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) protected laboratories with measuring and welding equipment.
We have our own design and documentation department, that develops documentation for both internal and external projects.
Our products are always accompanied with complete documentation in the form of manuals, training material, training and marketing videos, and illustrations.
