Vision inspection
of critical welds
Reliable inline inspection in safety-critical production
In manufacturing environments where every weld is critical, quality control cannot rely on uncertainty. A global energy technology company partnered with Consat Engineering to replace an outdated vision system with a modern solution for inline inspection of critical welds.
The new solution operates as a production-critical part of the line, designed to meet exceptionally high requirements for quality, traceability and operational reliability.
Objective: To enable reliable inline inspection of critical welds using a modern vision system adapted to complex surfaces and continuous operation.

The challenge
Critical welds with shiny, rough and irregular surfaces created strong reflections that made conventional image processing insufficient. At the same time, the system had to run inline with very high availability – any downtime would stop production.
The solution
Consat developed the custom vision system Optonova based on a unique triangulation approach, combining multiple cameras and lighting configurations. Image data is fused to enable accurate inspection despite challenging surface conditions.
The result
The vision system is production-critical and has delivered high availability over time. It enables the customer to maintain strict quality and safety standards in daily operation.
Value-driven
innovations
The solution represents system-level innovation, developed specifically for real industrial conditions. Its continued operation over time demonstrates the value of robust engineering and long-term planning in safety-critical environments.
