After successfully delivering Transport Connected Bus (TCB) Phase 1, Transport for NSW has awarded Consat Telematics with the next phase of the program. Phase 2 will see the Consat Telematics system installed in a further 1000 buses across the state of New South Wales. Regions included in Phase 2 are Albury, Armidale, Bathurst, Bomaderry-Nowra, Grafton, Griffith, Lismore, Orange, Parkes, Port Macquarie, Queanbeyan, Tamworth, Tweed Heads, and Wagga Wagga.
Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said, “The technology has already been rolled out in Dubbo, Coffs Harbour and Bega with great results and we are excited to be expanding this program to another 14 regional centres including Wagga Wagga.”
Phase 1 saw over 285 buses, across Dubbo, Coffs Harbour and Bega, fitted with the Consat Telematics technology. The system provides real time tracking, passenger occupancy and a central system to manage and operate the bus fleets.
NSW Nationals Member of the Legislative Council Ben Franklin said the new technology was great news for anyone who used the buses in the regions. “The technology will make it so much easier for bus customers to get around by allowing them to track the location of their service, its estimated time of arrival and how many seats are available,” Mr Franklin said.
The project includes both on-board systems and a back-office central system to manage and monitor buses in real-time, including integration into other TfNSW systems and customer facing information channels.
